Dear Young and Promising, and Enthusiastically Wondering Future Neuroscientists,

It is with great pleasure that we welcome you on behalf of the Neuroscience Society of Turkey (TÜBAS) to the “Neuroscience Graduate Summer Workshop and Practical Training with International Participation” (as it is titled at the present time) or with the traditional name “Gazi-Ege BINGSS”, that will be held in June 25-29, 2018 at the Gazi University of Ankara.

“Neuroscience Graduate Summer Workshop and Practical Training” builds appropriately on the previously funded successful EgeBINGSS - Biennial International Graduate Summer School, which is a prestigious tradition and genuinely altruistic international organization since its foundation by our gifted "teachers" and inspiring "coordinators" Professors Gönül Ö. Peker and Reha Erzurumlu in 1999. Our main goal is to attract, discover, hook, convince, challenge, enlighten and encourage new future neuroscientists from almost all graduate (bio-medicine and health sciences, psychology, life sciences, engineering and even law and philosophy backgrounds) and even some senior classes of similar undergraduate programs to hopefully develop to become the new members of dynamic and breaking rejuvenating neuroscientists of Turkey and the World.

The main topic of this years program will be “Neuroinflammation and Adult Neurogenesis: a sneaky foe or a reliable friend?” focusing on new insights into beneficial and detrimental effects of neuroinflammation in health and disease. To provide the most benefit from the organization for our enthusiastic participants, we have planned two different programs. The “Neuroscience Graduate Summer Workshop” will be held on June25-27, 2018 which includes lectures to improve your theoretical knowledge in neuroinflammation. “Neuroscience Graduate Summer Practical Training” will be held on June 28-29, 2018, where you’ll have the chance of joining wetlabs and also special interest groups (SIGs) to improve your academic/scentific skills but also get the opportunuties for close communication and cooperation with the national and international faculty to build future networking.

We are very proud to inform you that Gazi-Ege BINGSS is financially supported by Turkish Research Council (TÜBİTAK), Society for Neuroscience (SfN) Chapter Grant, and IBRO-PERC Workshops, Conferences and Meetings Support. Students accommodation, certain meals and shuttle services will be covered by the organisation.

We will do our best to capture the unforgettable spirit of EGE-BINGSS and have a great week benefiting from the basic and state of the art knowledge, know how, and wisdom harmonized with joy and colorful memories. Please help us meet the ultimate aim of an old tradition for spinning new sprouts, and establishing new friendships as well as educational / professional bonds and networking.

If you want to be amazed, and co-witness the exciting coherence, interference, interaction, and the "complex cause and effect affairs" of neuroscience and immunology, please join us to recognize, learn- and who knows-  maybe collaborate with the lecturing eminent senior scientists and clinicians in pursuing the avenues for resolving the complex interactions of these two fundamental but constantly evolving homeostatic systems.

We very sincerely look forward to welcoming you all to the Gazi –Ege BINGSS at Gazi University School of Medicine, in end June 2018.

Global Learning Issues & Performance Objectives of Neuroscience Graduate Summer Workshop and Practical Training

At the end of Neuroscience Graduate Summer Workshop, the participants should be able to:

  • Perceive the basic and state of the art knowledge of inflammation, neuroinflammation and structures take part in sterile inflammatory process in the central nervous system.
  • Assimilate the basic knowledge of neuroinflammation in the central nervous system with respect to healthy bur also pathological conditions.
  • Define the basic and recently proposed mechanisms favoring and inhibiting effects of   neuroinflammation on developmental, degenerative and restorative neuroregeneration.
  • Take home at least a global understanding of the novel approaches in trends in neuroscience
  • Reevaluate their views and reorganize their gains acquired at the psycho-social issues and professional survival skills roundtable

At the end of Neuroscience Graduate Summer Practical Training, the participants should be able to:

  • Describe the macro and micro morphological features of the nervous system.
  • Imagine the molecular pathways in inflammation and neuroinflammation.
  • Perceive the basic and state of the art knowledge of cellular components of immune system.
  • Merge their existing knowledge and know how on lab animal ethics with the up-to-date understandings and practices in the practising area.
  • Remember, translate and transfer the methodological and practical know-how they were  ntroduced to during the wet lab sessions they have participated.
  • Reevaluate their views and reorganize their gains acquired at the psycho-social issues and professional survival skills SIG.
